In cooperation with the Regional Institute for Statistics of the autonomous Province Bolzano-Bozen (South Tyrol)
Project management: Dipl.-Geogr. Sebastian Schäfer
Project period: March to December 2007
Project objectives:
The project's objective is to identify and calculate land consumption in the autonomous Provinve Bolzano-Bozen (Italy). For this purpose all plots were recorded spatially and statistically and populated area and permanent settlement area were identified and calculated using GIS.
The populated area contains all plots which are actually permanently populated or cultivated. The permanent settlement area contains all plots which could in principle be used for settlement purposes. The permanent settlement area is restricted by characteristics of the environment, legal constraints, and technical and ecological parameters.
