Université de Strasbourg

Outgoing über Erasmus+

Strasbourg has always been a crossroads at the center of Europe and was a key centre of the reformation. Today, the University of Strasbourg is the only French state university that offers state degrees in both Protestant and Catholic theology. The university’s libraries are also a national center of excellence in these fields. While the Faculty of Protestant Theology at the University of Strasbourg has been training students for the pastoral ministry for many years, it does offer a distanced and academic view of Christianity, Protestantism and other religions. Through its programme, the Faculty therefore offers students the possibilty to work in fields such as diakonia, socio-cultural animation, religious teaching and theological research, or journalism specializing in religious issues.

The teaching at the Faculty offers students a wide field of studies, from ancient languages to the sociology of religions, from the history of Christianity to systematic theology, from the history of religions to pedagogy. These fields are organized around four main disciplines, which are biblical studies, history of Christianity and other religions, systematic theology and practical theology.

The Faculty of Theology is part of a large international research and teaching network and has numerous links to faculties in France, Germany, Great Britain, the USA, and African countries. Numerous research centers and the doctoral school contribute to the Faculty's international reputation, which is evidenced by the numerous activities and publications of its research groups and lecturers.
