Lynx Thuringia. Connecting Lynx Populations across Europe.

The Department of Conservation Biology is a partner in the project "Lynx Thuringia. Connecting Lynx Populations across Europe", which aims to establish a new subpopulation of the Eurasian lynx in the Thuringian Forest, Central Germany.

Between 2024 and 2027, we are planning to release up to 20 lynx in the Thuringian Forest. In this way, we will create the basis for a new, stable lynx (sub-)population in Central Germany. This new (sub-)population will be the so far missing link to connect the already existing populations in the Harz Mountains and the Bavarian Forest. The Department of Conservation Biology is providing scientific support for the project and is assisting the project partners in monitoring the species.

You can find more information about the "Lynx Thuringia" project on our official project website.
