Dr. Sebastian Schwecke successfully completed his habilitation in 2023 with Prof. Ravi Ahuja on the subject of “Debt in Banaras. Extra-legal Finance in Modern India
Areas of research include:
- Work in the Bazaar. The Orgnaization of Work in a Social Milieu beyond State Regulation: India, 1930-2000.
- The political economy of movements based on conceptions of identity (Hindu nationalism, Islamism, Dalits and other caste-specific movements, secular nationalism).
- Processes of social stratification and differentiation in South Asia.
- Democratization and transformation.
