Human Trafficking - Research and Measurement

Our project, Indexing Trafficking in Human Beings, is an interdisciplinary research project among economists, political scientists and criminologists, supported by the European Commission's Directorate-General Justice, Freedom and Security (Prevention of and Fight Against Crime Programme, Action Grant).



We aim to:


  • Measure trends and patterns of human trafficking and anti-trafficking policies
  • Conduct quantified research on human trafficking and other correlated social factors

  • Introduction of the 3P Anti-trafficking Policy Index

  • Sub-indices of three policy dimensions: Prosecution, Prevention, Protection; score 1 (worst) 5 (best)

  • Overall index: score 3 (worst) - 15 (best)

  • Annual data are available for up to 183 countries over the 2000-2010 period.
