Prospective students

Why study world literature?

Just take a look at what made our students choose this degree programme. In addition, our international students talk about their experiences with studying in Göttingen.

Orientation week

Every year, in the week before the start of the lecture period in the winter semester (see dates and deadlines), an orientation week for first-semester students takes place, which we have shortened to the "O-week".

During the O-week, you will receive all the important information for your start at the university. Participation in the O-week is not compulsory, but very helpful for a smooth start to your studies and especially for getting to know other students.

The World Literature student group has put together an informative and varied programme for O-Week 2023 in cooperation with the programme coordinator.

Language skills

According to the admission regulations for the degree programme World Literature, applicants must prove their language skills before starting the degree programme. The language skills are not checked by the Admissions Office, but by the programme coordinator. For this purpose, you submit a copy of your certificates in electronic form.
If your language skills meet the requirements of the degree programme, you will receive a language certificate, which you must then upload to the online portal together with the other application documents.

Application and enrolment

Enrolment in the World Literature degree programme is only possible for the winter semester.
The application and enrolment takes place via an online portal.

In addition to your certificates, you must also upload proof of language proficiency (see above) in the online portal. Please request this proof from the programme coordinator (contact on the right).

Reading list

Here you will find a reading list with basic texts of world literature, which are recommended as preliminary knowledge for the study of world literature and should serve as recommended reading for free hours before the start of the study programme (and after).
