3 June

The Transnational Research Group "Poverty and education in modern India" has started its work at the beginning of 2013. The research group was initiated by the German Historical Institute in London and consists of scholars based in India, Britain and Germany who will explore the under-studied link between poverty and education policies in India since the nineteenth century.
As part of an initial workshop, CeMIS and the Transnational Research Group invited to a public lecture. Prof. Geetha Nambissan, Professor for the Sociology of Education at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, talked about "Private schools for the poor and children's right to education: some reflections from India". The lecture has been opened by Prof. Hiltraud Casper-Hehne, Vice-President of Göttingen University. The talk started at 6:15 p.m. in the "Großer Seminarraum" at the Central Library.
