Gunnar is a senior lecturer in environmental biology at the University of South Australia in Adelaide, who is currently at the University of Göttingen to work with Dr. Holger Kreft on the effects of environmental heterogeneity on species diversity of islands as part of an Alexander von Humboldt fellowship. His research centers around the conservation of biodiversity and contributing towards a better understanding of species distributions using biological and environmental data, with a focus on the Oceania region. Gunnar´s publications, especially those on climate change refugia and Pacific Island biodiversity, are widely cited and his 50+ publications have been cited more than 1000 times.
