Dr. Sanam Roohi
Sanam Roohi is a researcher at the Centre for Modern Indian Studies (CeMIS), University of Göttingen, working on the DFG funded InDiPop project led by Prof. Srirupa Roy. She holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Amsterdam. Her work explores the themes of socio-spatial mobility, caste in the diaspora, migration infrastructures, and digital political mobilization. She has held fellowships at CAIS, Bochum; KWI, Essen; CeMIS (Alexander von Humboldt, SSRC InterAsia); and MWK, Erfurt (Marie Curie COFUND). Roohi has been part of teams that won grants, including ENIS COST Action CA20115 and the SSHRC Insights grant. She is the co-editor-in-chief of Comparative Migration Studies, a founding member of Feminist Peace Research Network, a board member of the Calcutta Research Group and the Erasmus Inclusion+. Previously, Roohi was a visiting research fellow at the University of Sussex’s School of Global Studies in 2022 and worked as an assistant professor at St. Joseph’s University, Bangalore (2016 – 2018).
