Advanced Lab Course (M.Phy.1401, M.Phy.1402) in biophysics and complex systems

Experiment: Microfluidics (BK.MIF or BK.CMF)

Microfluidics is a rising branch in fundamental research, which deals with the handling of liquids on small length scales and it is found in research areas such as biotechnology and medical engineering (Lab-on-a-Chip technology).

As of SS2022 you can chose between the course "microfluidics" (in person) or "computational microfluidics" (online):

Microfluidics in person (BK.MIF):
This course yields insights on how to make microfluidic measuring devices and covers the basics of fluid mechanics at low Reynolds numbers. When investigating laminar flow or analyzing flow profiles around different obstacles, a training microscope with an open set-up will be used.

Computational Microfluidics online (BK.CMF):
This course aims to provide insights on how to simulate flow in microfluidic devices using the finite-element-method. For this purpose, it covers the basics of
fluid mechanics at low Reynolds numbers investigating laminar flow profiles.
