Admission Requirements
Previous education
Bachelor's degree in Physics or in a related subject with at least three years of study and at least 180 ECTS Credits (conversion rule of thumb for non-EU applicants: 1 ECTS = 30 hours of study):
- including at least 126 Credits in the field of physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology or computer sciences,
- including at least 78 Credits in the field of physics,
- including at least 12 Credits in the field of theoretical physics (quantum mechanics and statistical mechanics)
- Non-EU applicants have to take the GRE physics test (Please use the DI Code 4056 and indicate our institution as a score recipient.)
Language Requirements
Applicants must provide proof of either (1) excellent English skills, or (2) good English and good German skills.

- Global Scale of English (Pearson Academic): 76 points;
- equivalent proof (CEF): C1;
- Degree certificate of a program of study lasting at least two years and with English as teaching language
(2a) As proof of good English skills we require at least one of the following:
- A grade point average of at least 8 points in the subject of English throughout the two school years prior to acquiring university entrance qualification (Abitur)
- UNIcert: II;
- NULTE Certificate: B2;
- Cambridge English Scale: 160 points
- IELTS Academic: 5.5;
- TOEFL iBT (internet-based): 81 points;
- Global scale of English (Pearson Academic): 59 points;
- equivalent proof (CEF): B2;
- one year spent studying or working abroad in a country in which English is the official language
(2b)As proof of good German skills we require at least one of the following:
- Having a previous education (e.g. Abitur) where German was (one of) the main teaching language(s)
- DSH II;
- TestDaF 4
