Pre and post-conference excursions
Following field trips and guided tours are planned before and after the conference:
Tour A (Sunday, 8 Sept. 2024, full day)
Pre-conference excursion Quartzite mineralizations of the Harz Mountains (Dr. Bernd Leiss)
Several outcrops of quartzites showing different stages of silicification and ore mineralization will be visited (Acker-Bruchbergzone, Teufelsmauer).
Tour B (Monday, 9 Sept. 2024, afternoon)
Pre-conference guided tour to the labs of the Institute for Glass and Raw Material Technology (IGR) Göttingen
Tour C (Monday, 9 Sept 2024, afternoon)
Visit the analytical facilities at the GZG (GOELEM Light and electron microscopy, cathodoluminescence, stable isotopes.
Tour D (Thursday, 12 Sept. 2024, full day)
Post-conference excursion Glass production from raw materials to final products. We will visit SCHOTT AG, Grünenplan (Holzminden) and quartz sand deposits in Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. Visit to the Quarzwerke GmbH in Weferlingen and geopoint sand- and gravel pit Uhry.
