Mental Health Support at Göttingen University/ Göttingen


There are different options at Göttingen University / in Göttingen:

  • The Welcome Centre of the University of Göttingen can support you to find a therapist or medical specialist who speaks English or your foreign language. Please write an Email to the Welcome Centre and ask for the expert with the respective language you need. In all cases your primary contact should be your General Practitioner (GP)/family doctor (Hausarzt), so please get in contact with a GP early on.   • The psychotherapeutic outpatient clinic, which is very close to CeMIS: You can speak to them without prior appointment during their open consultation hours. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 11:00 to 12:00 am and Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 am. They will briefly assess the things that concern you and recommend the best following steps / provide treatment for you, if necessary.

  • The psychotherapeutic counseling by the Studentenwerk. We offer open telephone consultation hours in which you can contact them with your concerns and make an appointment. Please check their website for the next open counseling hour.

  • The psychiatric emergency service at Psychiatrische Klinik, Von-Siebold-Str. 5, 37075 Göttingen, tel: +49 (0) 551-3966610.

  • The Women’s Shelter at Groner Straße 32/33, 37073 Göttingen, tel. 0551 – 44684 (emergency hotline). Find more info here / (choose the English language section)

  • The counseling service for non-binary/transgender people in Göttingen. You can find them at the Queer Centre (Queeres Zentrum Hospitalstraße 20, 37073 Göttingen). They offer counseling and support for trans and/or non-binary people, their friends and families. You can contact them via email and make an appointment or you can come to their open consultation hours (without appointment).
