Gender studies
Students may only select this module package after they have enrolled in one of the appropriate Master’s degree programmes offered by the Faculties of Philosophy or Social Sciences. This includes the option of writing a Master’s thesis within the 36-credit module package as long as the student is enrolled in a Master’s degree programme in a related discipline and additionally earns 6 credits in a gender studies area.

Admission requirements: Students may only take the 36-credit module package on “Gender Studies“ if they can provide proof that they earned at least 20 credits in a gender studies area over the course of their previous degree programme.

Prerequisites for permission to write a Master’s thesis
Students have the option to write a Master’s thesis in the field of Gender Studies if they have successfully completed the 36-credit “Gender Studies“ module package within a Master’s degree programme in a related discipline and additionally earned 6 credits in the M.GeFo.8 module.
The Examination Committee of the faculty running the Master’s degree programme in which the examinee is enrolled is responsible for deciding on the admissibility of Master’s theses in the field of gender studies. The admission decision lies with the Examination Committee responsible for the subject of gender studies.
Subject-specific study goals
Students acquire academic and research-related knowledge and skills in the field of Gender Studies that are relevant for academic or application-oriented work. The research-related alignment takes a comparative perspective that aims to prepare students for a possible doctoral degree as well as for an academically oriented profession.

Therefore, students who successfully complete the 36-credit “Gender Studies“ module package will be qualified for work in research at institutes of higher learning, universities and non-university research institutions as well as for (managing) positions in the following professional fields:
- Teaching at institutes of higher learning, universities and other educational institutions,
- Human resources, gender mainstreaming and diversity management at public and private institutions and organisations of national and international scope,
- Public relations work with organisations,
- Employment at publishing houses, media companies,
- Out-of-school educational work,
- Work at art history museums, in the fields of cultural policy and cultural exchange,
- Employment in the sports and healthcare sectors,
- Consulting work.
