Master’s programmes of the Faculty of Business and Economics

The application for our master's programmes is made via the Faculty of Business and Economics. The standard period of study for all master's programmes is four semesters (2 years).

Please note:

For the majority of our programmes you need a certain level of knowledge of the German language in order to study in Göttingen.

We offer two English-language master's programmes: The MSc in Development Economics and the MA in History of Global Markets. The MA in History of Global Markets can be studied either in German or in English or in a combination of both languages.

Application Periods

You can apply to our master's programmes for both the winter semester and the summer semester.

Exceptions are the Master's programme in Applied Statistics and the Master's programme in Management. For these programmes, application is only possible for the winter semester.

For the Master's programme in Development Economics, different application periods apply for citizens of EU countries and for citizens of non-EU countries. The programme begins in the winter semester:

  • EU citizens: 1 April to 15 May of the same year

  • Non-EU citizens: 1 October to 15 November of the previous year

Admission Requirements

The prerequisite for an application is a bachelor's degree of at least six semesters in a relevant subject with at least 180 credits. At least 150 of the 180 credits must be proven at the time of application.

In addition, you must demonstrate knowledge in specific fields (like for example business, economics, mathematics or statistics) by successfully completing corresponding modules. This is usually the case if, after your bachelor's degree, you decide to enrol in a consecutive master's programme in your subject area, meaning one that already builds on a bachelor's programme.

Detailed information on the master's programmes of the faculty as well as on the application and selection process can be found on the respective programme pages.

Every semester, the faculty holds the information and application day for master's programmes, at which we present our programmes. Interested students from Göttingen as well as other universities are cordially invited to participate.
