Project Activities 2021

• A virtual seminar series was held on October 21-22 and November 11-12 with thematic foci on (1) biodiversity, ecology and conservation (2) social studies and (3) forest science and ecology. Numerous lecturers and students from the partner institutions UGOE, HAWK, UNCEN, UNIPA and UGM as well as guests from other Indonesian universities participated.

• Margaretha Pangau-Adam travelled to Papua and will conduct joint field work with colleagues and students from UNCEN in October and November.
  
  
• Everyone else in the project was unable to conduct any field work in Papua due to Corona's worldwide travel restrictions.
  
  
• virtual Science Workshop planned for November

  • no fieldwork and excursions in Papua
    Due to the COVID-19 situation, the project could not carry out most of the planned activities of 2020. All fieldwork activities had to be postponed. The excursion of the MSc Tropical International Forestry module "development of a forest region" to Papua could not be planned. The online teaching period was used to digitalise all teaching material and field method documentation.
    
    
  • March 16th – 22nd 2020: Project meeting with all partners in Göttingen
    The project meeting organized for March had to be cancelled a few days before the start and could only be held virtually.

    Workshop in the DAAD Alumni Special Project "International Forest Assessment and Sustainable Forest Management - International research networks and their relevance for the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework" cancelled
    
    
    

    Project Activities 2019

    
    
    • March 8th – 16th 2019: Scientific meetings at UNCEN, field work and stakeholder interviews at Nimbokrang
      
      
    • March 18th – 21st: Kick-off workshop with all partners at UNIPA, field visit to forest sites at Ransiki and Warenmomi
      
      
      In October 2019, several student excursions were conducted with the partner universities. The biodiversity monitoring started using camera traps in the education forest of the partner university Universitas Cenderawasih. Furthermore, Michael Mühlenberg was invited to open an international conference of UNCEN in Jayapura.
      
      
      
    • 12-18 October 2019: Excursion for UNCEN students and start of biodiversity monitoring with camera traps in the Nimbokrang forest.
      
      
    • 19-20 October 2019: Opening of an international conference by Michael Mühlenberg in Jayapura.
      
      
      
    • 22-29 October 2019: Students excursion to Raja Ampat with a focus on marine biodiversity. Data collection for bachelor theses.
