Early Career Support

PhD students.

All PhD students of the CRC 1456 benefit from the well-established structured education and career support measures of the Göttingen Campus. The University, the Medical Center and the
non-university research institutions are committed to uniformly high standards of research training regardless of the affiliation of the trainee and supervisor (detailed in the 2015 position paper “Career
Paths in Science and Academia: Perspectives and support to early career researchers at the Göttingen Campus”, which also applies to postdocs). At the Göttingen Campus, the PhD students within the
planned CRC, irrespective of whether they work at the University of Göttingen or non-university research institutions, are members of the Georg-August University School of Sciences (GAUSS)
.

PostDocs

A special focus of Georg-August University School of Sciences (GAUSS) is career development both for its PhD students and for postdoctoral researchers on the Göttingen Campus. The school therefore offers a Career Service unit which provides career development workshops specific for this career stage, alumni networking, industry excursions, career talks and individual counseling and career advice. Furthermore, the Göttingen Campus has launched the Göttingen Campus postdoc community, which provides networking opportunities and information on funding opportunities, career development and workshops for researchers from late stage PhD to early independent researchers. The proposed CRC will further support the independence of postdoctoral researchers, e.g. they will be encouraged to invite guest scientists to CRC colloquia, and the CRC will support postdocs to attend conferences allowing for the presentation of their work.
