Public Outreach
The CRC 1456 will participate with own contributions in the existing outreach activities of the University of Göttingen. Examples are the biennial “Nights of Science” and the IdeenExpo in Hannover, as well as “Science goes City” presenting science in inner-city shops. Additionally, we plan present our research by cooperating with the future “Forum Wissen”, the University’s transdisciplinary museum designed to study and showcase how science and knowledge are made. Please find more information under Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft.
Outreach to a broader audience is the major goal of the participating departments, realized by such events as “Saturday Morning Physics”, “Highlights der Physik”, Physik im Advent, or Mathematischer Korrespondenzzirkel.
To motivate young people to study mathematics or natural sciences all departments organize several activities, e.g.“rent a scientist”, “Mathematisches Sommerstudium”, or “Mathematik-Olympiade in Niedersachsen”.
Courses in physics, chemistry and biology are offered in XLAB International Science Camp and is open to interested high school students and undergraduate college and university students from all over the world. For example, principal investigators Christoph Lehrenfeld has recently offered a course “Physik realer Systeme: Von Differenzialgleichungen zum Experiment”. Introduction to interesting and understandable areas of mathematics in lectures and supervised tutorials are offered at the Göttingen Math Camp.
