How to apply:
A step-by-step guide for applicants from Non-EU/EEA countries -
Studienkolleg and External Assessment Test

If your previous education is not sufficient for admission to a degree programme, i.e. you do not yet have a direct university entrance qualification, you may have to attend a Studienkolleg to take the Assessment test (´Feststellungsprüfung´). This test determines whether you meet the subject and language requirements for studying a degree programme.

In order to register for the Entrance test at the Studienkolleg Hannover, you must first apply a regular application for the subject you would like to study later. Please choose this subject carefully, as you can only apply for one course at the Studienkolleg.

During the application process, your school leaving certificate will be checked for a subject affiliation. This means that, based on the final subjects of your school leaving certificate, you may, if applicable, only choose certain subjects of study.

If you are not subject-restricted, you are free to choose the subject you would like to study later from all subjects.

If your school leaving certificate is sufficient to qualify for the Studienkolleg, you will be registered by the University for the admission process at the Studienkolleg. Afterwards the Studienkolleg will give you further information on the following steps.

Participation at the admission process at the Studienkolleg is not an admission to the degree programme!

If you have successfully completed the Studienkolleg with the assessment test, you must reapply for admission to the university of your choice.

If you do not know, which specialisation course you need in order to apply for the study programme of your choice, please find here an overview.

The entire application process is shown here in illustrative application videos or described below:

Create an application by clicking the button “Start Application”.

Select the semester in which you would like to start your studies in Göttingen. Then click "Start application“ to create an application and select the degree you are aiming for and the desired subject. Please choose this subject carefully, as you can only apply for one course at the Studienkolleg.

In the following, you will be asked to state your higher education entrance qualification. International applicants please select „Sonstiger Erwerb der HZB im Ausland“. Since this may consist of several parts for each applicant individually, please indicate those that apply to you.

After entering data on periods of study abroad and on the preparatory college (‘Studienkolleg’), upload certificates and other documents. To do this, use the "Document upload" tab at the top centre. Please try to upload all pages of a documenttype in one file and pay special attention to the selection of the correct document type when uploading.

Finally, return to the homepage via the "House icon", click on "View my application" and then on "Submit request" to submit your application. Please note that you can only submit your application once you have uploaded all mandatory documents.

Your application will only be processed if you have submitted the application by the deadline. Applications "in preparation" will not be considered!

The University of Göttingen charges once per each semester of application a fee of 65 euros for the evaluation of foreign higher education entrance qualifications. Unless you are exempt from this fee, please pay by bank transfer by the application deadline at the latest. Otherwise, your application cannot be processed. You will receive a written assessment of your entrance qualification once the processing of your application has been completed.

While your application is being processed, we will keep you informed about the status of the selection and admission process. The process begins directly after the application period.

You will receive feedback from us by email between July and August (winter semester) or between January and February (summer semester).
