Aloha from the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS)!

In January 2023, Laura Schulze participated in HICSS. During the Doctoral Consortium (DC), she discussed current research in small groups consisting of two mentors as well as other doctoral students. The DC was complemented by a keynote and a panel discussion as well as a get-together. Many thanks to organizers GT de Vreede and Sue Brown for this great opportunity for discussions and networking!

Laura also presented a recent research paper entitled "Fairness in Algorithmic Management: How Practices Promote Fairness and Redress Unfairness on Digital Labor Platforms." The paper reveals fair best practices that digital labor platforms use to manage workers. Through several focus groups with platform workers, we identify how platforms use algorithms that either promote fair treatment, or ensure that if workers are treated unfairly, fairness is restored afterwards. We thank the conference organizers for a great conference in a relaxed atmosphere and the audience for stimulating discussions after the presentation!
