The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Göttingen invites applications for a permanent professorship with civil servant status (grade W2 NBesO) at the Department for Mediaeval and Modern History effective at the earliest possible date:

W2 Professorship of Eastern European History (f/m/d)

We are looking for a committed scholar who can collaborate with colleagues while representing the full range of Eastern European History in teaching and research, in addition to specializing in particular epochs and regions. The holder of the position will be expected to cooperate within and beyond disciplinary boundaries, participating in research projects involving both the Faculty of Humanities and the wider Göttingen Campus, while also contributing to the support of existing teaching programmes and the development of new ones. The successful candidate must be prepared to teach in English in addition to demonstrating proficiency in two Eastern European languages. The University of Göttingen attaches great importance to research-oriented teaching.

Applicants should have a habilitation or equivalent achievements in Eastern European History, experience in university teaching, as well as high-ranking and internationally visible publications.

Appointment requirements are stipulated by Article 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act in the most current version of that law. As a rule, junior professors and other members of the University of Göttingen that have obtained their doctorate from this university can only be considered for a professorial appointment if after the completion of the doctoral thesis they have transferred to another university or worked for a minimum of two years in research elsewhere. The University of Göttingen is a Public Law Foundation and thereby entitled to award professorships. Details will be provided upon request.
