Workshop at WI: "Design Methods for Service Ecosystems in the Age of AI"
Description
Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the provision and delivery of services across a wide range of areas—including industrial manufacturing, public services, healthcare, and many more—bringing new opportunities and challenges for the development of responsive, sustainable, and flexible service ecosystems that prioritize human-centered and ethical considerations. Adapting traditional approaches to service design and developing new approaches that address, for example, potentially new data-driven ecosystem structures, the environmental risks of AI deployment, and changes in the relationship between humans and machines due to virtual assistance is essential to meet today's business and societal demands.
This half-day workshop highlights the dual role of AI:
AI as a design tool: Explores how AI technologies can enhance design activities so that designers can develop more effective and innovative service solutions. Participants will examine AI-driven design methods, tools, and processes that enable better decision-making and creativity in service design.
AI in service ecosystems: Explore how AI technologies can be integrated into service ecosystems and transform the way services are delivered and experienced across industries. Topics include the impact of AI on user experience, service-delivery models, and the ethical implications of AI-powered service offerings.
Participants are invited to explore the intersection of AI and service design through interactive knowledge exchange and collaborative development. The goal of the workshop is to jointly develop an initial roadmap that identifies future research directions and the essential resources needed to advance AI-supported service design in ecosystems. This roadmap will serve as a guide for the development of innovative, effective, and ethically sound—and thus value-based and social—design methods capable of supporting service ecosystems in the age of AI.
