University of Göttingen Diversity Award

Innovations for a pluralistic and democratic university culture

The University of Göttingen's Diversity Award honours outstanding commitment to diversity and equal opportunities in the areas of counselling/advisory services, leadership and university culture. From 2026, two prizes will be awarded annually in different categories, each endowed with 2.500 euros. The award ceremony will take place every year in May on German Diversity Day.

All members and affiliates of the University are eligible to nominate candidates. A jury, in which students, faculty and staff are represented, chooses from the nominations. Information on how to nominate or apply for the award can be found below.
The Diversity Award is supported by Arineo GmbH.

Categories

As stated in the University's Diversity Strategy, the commitment to diversity and equal opportunities is a cross-sectional task in all university fields of action. The Diversity Award recognises personal commitment and projects in the following three fields:

The award recognises diversity-conscious counselling services or counsellors, e.g. counselling services for disadvantaged groups, multilingual and/or discrimination-critical counselling services or open counselling settings that address people in different life situations .

The award recognises leaders and managers who are particularly committed to diversity in their areas of work. This can relate, for example, to management style, communication within the team, work organisation and active protection against discrimination.

The award recognises activities that promote a diversity-conscious university culture, counteract discrimination and/or promote plurality and democracy on campus.

Special consideration is given to activities and projects that could potentially be transferred to other functional areas, faculties or institutes.

Here you can find more information on the criteria for the Diversity Award.

Nomination and application

All members and affiliates of the University of Göttingen (students, employees in science, science management, administration and technology, lecturers, etc.) can nominate people/activities/projects for the Diversity Award and be nominated themselves. We welcome applications/self-nomination for the categories "Counselling/Advisory services" and "University Culture". We do not accept applications/self-nominations for the "Leadership" category - in this category, leaders/managers can only be nominated by people who work for them.
