About CLaRe

Overview & Objectives

The Competend Centre Landscape Resiliencez (CLaRe) of the University of Göttingen strengthens the emerging international research field of landscape resilience and anchors it permanently at the Göttingen site. CLaRe focuses on:

  • Analysis and understanding of the resilience of landscapes to disturbances (including through the establishment of a junior research group),
  • Development of innovative methods for measuring and describing resilience,
  • Promotion of transdisciplinary research and knowledge transfer between science, society, and practice.

In addition, the centre contributes to the university’s strategic focus area “Sustainable Land Use and Biodiversity” and promotes practice-oriented and transformative research through networking with political and societal stakeholders. Beyond scientific projects, cooperation with stakeholders (e.g., state forestry services, farmers) as well as educational and public outreach activities are planned—such as initiatives at the Forum Wissen and collaborations with school classes—to bring the concept of landscape resilience more broadly into society.
