Arne Worm is a sociologist and postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Methods and Methodological Principles in the Social Sciences at the University of Göttingen. He has studied education, sociology, and musicology at the Universities of Göttingen, Vienna, and Beer Sheva. He has worked in various projects on the interdependence of social transformation in contexts of the “Global South,” socio-political conflicts and collective violence, biographies and belonging, as well as migration and displacement.
He completed his doctoral thesis on processes of refugee migration from the violent conflict in Syria in 2019. His thesis was awarded with the price for outstanding dissertations by the section “Migration and ethnic minorities” in the German Sociological Association in 2021.
Currently, he works in the project “Biographies of migrants from Syria and West Africa in Brazil and in Germany” (2019–2023, funded by the German Research Foundation). His research interests include biographical research, figurational sociology, global inequality, sociology of refugee migration, and transregional/transnational networks. He is active in various academic networks such as the RC38 of the International Sociological Association, the Section Biographical Research of the German Sociological Association, and the network “Global Qualitative Research”.
