Curriculum Vitae

Daniel Janßen-Müller is an organic chemist working at the interface of catalysis, redox chemistry, and reactive intermediate design. Following doctoral and postdoctoral research spanning N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) organocatalysis, nickel-catalyzed CO2 utilization, and organometallic chemistry, he has led an independent research group at the Georg-August-University Göttingen since 2020, where his work centers on redox-active heterocycles as a new class of organic radical reagents.

Since October 2020

Junior Research Group Leader
Institute of Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry, Georg-August-University Göttingen (Liebig Fellow, hosted by Prof. Dr. Lutz Ackermann)

Development of redox-active heterocyclic radical precursors, including dihydropyrimidines, for the controlled generation of alkyl radicals; palladium-catalyzed functionalization of biobased furan derivatives; organocatalytic (chiral N-heterocyclic carbene and isothiourea) synthesis of chiral radical precursors and more.

2019 – 2020

Postdoctoral Researcher
Research group of Prof. Dr. Martin Oestreich, Technical University Berlin

2017 – 2019

Postdoctoral Researcher
Research group of Prof. Dr. Rubén Martín, Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ), Tarragona, Spain

Development of nickel-catalyzed carboxylation of aziridines with CO2, nickel-catalyzed C–H carboxylation via a 1,4-Ni/H shift, and nickel-catalyzed hydroalkylation of alkynes with aziridines.
