Forestry in Germany (M.Sc.) (700093)

Description

This module is aimed at foreign students within the SUFONAMA study program who are interested in forestry practiced in Germany and the wood processing industry. Important aspects of German forestry are taught, such as basic knowledge of forest management, silviculture, forest utilization, work science and process engineering, forest economics, genetics and forest inventory and remote sensing. The module provides a basic understanding of forest management in Germany, including current trends and perspectives. It is strongly recommended for foreign students who want to carry out their project in Germany (Project: 70130 "Management of sustainable forest systems in Germany"). The module also includes various excursions.


Learning objectives and competences

The aim of this module is a basic understanding of the history, current developments and perspectives of forestry and related industries in Germany.

 

Through several field trips, an in-depth overview of the topics:

i) genetic conservation and forest tree breeding,

 

ii) Wood processing and wood biology,

 

iii) Forest development and processing technology,

 

iv) management of community forests

 

v) Silviculture of the main tree species in Germany,

 

vi) road construction and maintenance, timber harvesting and other forestry activities

 

vii) forest evaluation and planning

 

are given.

Using concrete examples, students will gain a basic understanding of different aspects of forestry in Germany
