Institutional economic analysis and approaches to improve the organization and management in small private forests of the University of Göttingen and the Thünen Institute, Agency for Renewable Resourc

The departments "Forest Economics" and "Forest Economics and Sustainable Land Use" of the Faculty of Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology of the Georg-August University, the Thünen Institute for International Forestry and Forest Economics and the Institute of Agriculture of the Georg-August University will systematically describe the institutional and legal framework conditions for typical forest management and organizational forms of small private forests as project partners in the three-year project "Institutional Economic Analysis and Approaches to Improve Organization and Management in Small Private Forests", analyze factors influencing the choice of management and organizational forms empirically and in terms of institutional economics and examine the effects of institutional and legal arrangements on forestry decisions. This will lead to proposals for the improvement of existing organizational structures and innovative new approaches for small private forests. The focus of the complex worked on by Prof. Martínez will be on the elaboration of the legal framework. The question to be answered is which regulations apply to the small private forest and how they influence the corresponding organizational structures. In addition, the historical development of the regulatory framework will be examined in order to understand the reasons for its complexity. Based on this, comparisons are made with other national economic sectors as well as with other jurisdictions that have similar forest structures and problems. This approach is intended to identify any regulatory deficits and possible solutions from other legal systems or areas. In addition, own alternative regulations are to be drafted. The sum of own solutions and those from other legal systems or areas shall serve as a legal-political approach to policy advice. The Agency for Renewable Resources (Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe e.V.) at the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) is co-sponsoring the project.
