Meik Thöne, M. Jur. (Oxon), Coach

Meik, who was granted a scholarship by the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation, studied law at the Georg-August-University of Goettingen and the University of Nottingham. After his graduation he started a doctorate in 2010 at the chair of Prof. Dr. Joachim Münch dealing with the abolition of the exequatur proceedings within the Brussels I Regulation. During his doctorate he worked as a research assistant at this chair, at which he had already been employed as a student assistant for several years.


After Meik had submitted his doctoral thesis, he worked in a law firm in Frankfurt for four months. Having been granted a scholarship by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), he did an M. Jur.- degree and graduated from the University of Oxford in 2013. During this year he focused on conflict of laws, arbitration law and comparative law; in this context he was recently awarded the Allen & Overy Prize for the best paper on transnational commercial law.


Besides law he fancies sports, especially football and squash, as well as jazz.
