Participation

The application phase for the 31st Vis Moot

The deadline for applications for the 31st Vis Moot has passed on 11 June 2023.

Who can participate?

You do not need any prior experience in the field of moot courts. Participation is possible from the third semester forward. Therefore, you can apply as soon as you are a second semester law student at the Georg-August-University.

Why should I participate?

The Willem C. Vis Moot provides a rare opportunity to improve your soft skills during your legal studies. Here, you can apply the knowledge you have learned in your courses. Specifically, you can improve your argumentation skills, your legal english, and your negotiation tactics. Moreover, the Vis Moot raises your awareness for legal problems and trains your ability to resolve disputes. In other words, you gain the skills you will need in your future legal practice.
Additionally, the semester spent participating in the Vis Moot does not count towards your period of study and therefore does not hinder your ability to use the “Freischuss” for your exam.
Lastly, the Vis Moot is also a great opportunity to meet students and practitioners from all over the world as you travel to international Pre-Moots and pleadings.

Does the Vis Moot count as an academic achievement?

In each case, the participation can be credited as a “Fremdsprachenschein”. Additionally, you can complete a “vorbereitende Leistung”, “Schlüsselqualifikation”, or even a “Seminararbeit”. Therefore, the Vis Moot does not only not count towards your period of study, but you can even progress in your regular legal studies.

What are the chances to get selected into the team?

The chances to be selected to participate in the Vis Moot team Göttingen are high. When reviewing the candidates, we do not just look at their grades, but also take into account their personalities and experiences, as well as the projected team chemistry.

How does the selection process work?

After all written applications have been submitted, there will be a round of interviews with as many candidates as possible. Only then, the final candidates are chosen.

How many people can participate?

In the last years, the team consisted of four to six students.
