Instructor
Dr. Dunja Mohr, Go Academic!, is a certified coach and trainer. She has offered seminars and coaching for foundations, clusters of excellence, graduate schools, universities of applied sciences and non-university research organizations in German and English for more than 15 years. As a coach, she was also part of the trainer and consultant team of an established institute for higher education consulting in Düsseldorf for many years. She works as a senior scientist, holding a doctoral degree in Literary Studies, and is on the board of several international academic institutions and associations.
This workshop provides opportunities to optimize the management of the dissertation project and to re-orientate the dissertation process where necessary. The workshop offers a space to realistically reflect upon, evaluate, and adapt the time and project management, identify helpful as well as destructive work habits, and will improve participant’s self-management skills. The participants will learn tools and techniques for planning the weeks and structuring the days and work load. What are the typical doctoral thesis crises? What motivates doctoral students and where do they see obstacles ahead?
Additionally, the workshop will assist participants in placing their doctoral thesis within the larger research field and in proactively participating in the scientific community, fostering their own network. The online workshop requires some offscreen tasks between meetings.
To sum it up, the workshop will cover the following topics:
- time management
- prioritizing
- managing of work flow – milestones and stepping stones
- work-life-balance
- project management and process analysis
- research environment and academic structures
Approximately 2-3 weeks before the workshop, a preliminary survey is carried out using a short questionnaire in order to adapt the workshop content as specifically as possible to the individual needs of the participants.
Work assignments during the workshop and between sessions (including daily and weekly logs) are part of the workshop.
