From October 2022, the Retail Logistics Lab will examine current innovation issues relating to retail logistics systems, particularly regarding transportation topics. Aspects such as sustainabilityand digitization as well as the human factor within automated logistics processes will be the focus of method-based analyses and simulations. This is closely integrated into specific corporate operational logistics issues, but specifically considers overarching aspects and generalizable concepts. The Lab is jointly supported by the faculty teams Production and Logistics as well as Marketing and Innovation Management and financed by REWE Market for five years in order to enable a long-term perspective for research and innovation work as well as PhD projects and graduations. Up to four pre- and post-doc persons will work in the Lab group alongside the two professors Matthias Klumpp and Maik Hammerschmidt.
The Lab research group is integrated into the research activities of the Smart Retail Group of the Business Administration Department and follows an open innovation approach, inviting further companies, individuals and institutions to participate and exchange ideas at any time (e.g. in the context of thesis projects or company workshops).

A first conference paper on the topic human handling of complex processes in retail logistics has already been accepted for presentation at the 2022 EURO Working Group on Retail Operations Workshop at Koc University Istanbul in October 2022.
On 29.11.2022, the Lab will be ceremonially opened as part of the Göttingen Retail Summit 2022.
