Welcome to the Faculty of Chemistry
The Göttingen Faculty of Chemistry stands for research strength and attractive, research-oriented study programmes. It is characterised by close networking with neighbouring faculties and research institutes on the Göttingen campus.
Covid-19 and the energy crisis
University information on the current Covid-19 situation and regulations can be found by students here: link and employees here: link
Information about the energy issue can be found here: link
The faculty plans that despite the two challenges, courses in the winter semester 2022/23 will be held in attendance, with a few exceptions. Details can be found on the pages of the degree programmes: Bachelor, Master, Teaching (Bachelor), Master of Education.
Transition phase Start of studies
Starting a course of study is an important step in life, also in chemistry. We provide intensive support for our new students and are developing digital tools, advisory services and low-threshold networks in two projects. These help students get off to a successful start in their studies, but are also there to help them if, after a while, their studies turn out not to be a suitable path after all and they need to look for alternatives in the world of chemistry.

News from the faculty
Award winners from the precision mechanics
Jan-Kevin Weiß has successfully completed his apprenticeship as a precision mechanic in the workshops of the faculty successfully. So successfully, in fact, that he has been named by the Chamber of Crafts Hildesheim-South Lower Saxony as a 2nd chamber winner in the Performance Competition of the German Skilled Crafts 2021 was awarded. Instructor Mike Zippert and the entire faculty congratulate cordially!
Every year, the chemical workshops train young people in the fields of precision mechanics and electronics. The area of precision mechanics under the direction of Mike Zippert got awarded the by the Chamber of Commerce Hildesheim-Südniedersachsen as a particularly good training company. More information about the area is availablehere.
Teaching Award Ceremony at the Faculty of Chemistry
The Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Göttingen awarded in December 2021, during the GDCh Christmas Colloquium the prizes for special commitment in teaching of the summer semester 2021 and the best final theses in the period from 01.11.20 - 31.10.21. We congratulate the teaching award winners!
Luminous amino acids
Chemists at the University of Göttingen have succeeded in producing the particularly active structure of chromones in biological systems and drugs in only one step - starting from inexpensive materials. The results of the study have been published in the journal Nature Communications.more...
How diphosphorus can be used for chemical reactions
Chemical syntheses of new active ingredients or functional materials are based on the use of molecular modules. These must be reactive and stable enough to allow targeted incorporation into larger molecules. A research team from the University of Göttingen and the Goethe University Frankfurt has now demonstrated, using the diphosphorus molecule (P2) as an example, how such extremely unstable compounds can be used specifically for chemical reactions. The results of the study have been published in the journal CHEM.more...

Equal opportunities Assembly
04.02.2022, 11.30 Uhr
All faculty members are invited to find out about the work of the Equal Opportunities Team and the Faculty's Anti-Discrimination Officer, to contribute their own ideas and concerns, and to draw up an election proposal for the Faculty Council to fill the Equal Opportunities Team for the term of office April 2022 to March 2024. Access data for the digital event can be requested from firstname.lastname@example.org.
Information days for prospective students
13. - 14. March 2022
Lectures and advice on all aspects of choosing a course of study are available at the information days for prospective students at the University of Göttingen. Of course, chemistry will also be there. You can find the program and registration options here.
Application deadline Master
You would like to apply for our Master's programme in Chemistry for the winter semester 2022/23? Then we need your application documents by 15 July 2022 (cut-off deadline!). Information on the application procedure and the necessary documents can be found here.
Virtual lab assistant
The virtual lab assistant provides a description of most lab equipment, safety instructions for working in the lab, and checklists for everyday lab work.
The Virtual Lab is an internet platform to support the teaching of chemistry. The common working techniques in the laboratory are explained and illustrated in the form of short films.
We are pleased to welcome you to the Virtual Study Orientation of the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Göttingen. (Just in german)
