The aim of the Business English programme at level C1 is to enable students to work or study abroad, to cope with linguistic and cultural challenges involved therein, and to familiarise students with the language of Business and Economics in English.
Business English I focuses mainly on the language of business topics such as entrepreneurship, management, production, marketing, and finances while Business English II focuses more closely on the language of economic topics such as the role of government, the financial sector, the business cycle, and international trade. Although students with little business or economic background are welcome to attend the courses, a basic understanding is both helpful and often necessary.
The four skill areas of listening, reading, writing and speaking are incorporated into the final examination consisting of two tests (listening and reading) and one portfolio (writing and speaking). In writing, emphasis is on reports and essays; in speaking, on presentations.
The Business English I course must be completed successfully before a student may take Business English II. The completion of both courses can lead to a UNIcert® III examination (approximates to level C1 “Effective Operational Proficiency” of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) which can be added to future job applications.
