BLUPF90 Summer School 2026 at the University of Göttingen

From 14 to 17 September 2026, the Summer School “Bases and Computing Techniques for Genomic Predictions and GWAS with the BLUPF90 Program Family” took place at the Department of Animal Sciences, University of Göttingen.

Around 30 participants, including Master’s students, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers from different countries and with diverse academic backgrounds, joined the four-day course. This diversity provided an excellent setting for scientific exchange and discussions throughout the week.

The Summer School combined theoretical introductions with numerous hands-on exercises, allowing participants to directly apply the presented methods using the BLUPF90 program family. Topics ranged from the fundamentals of genetic and genomic evaluation to genomic prediction and genome-wide association studies (GWAS).

A particular highlight of the Summer School was the excellent teaching by the instructors Prof. Dr. Daniela Lourenco, Dr. Matias Bermann and Dr. Fernando Bussiman. Their clear explanations, practical examples and continuous support during the exercises made even complex concepts accessible and provided participants with the opportunity to discuss questions directly with experts in the field.

After four intensive days, participants not only gained a deeper understanding of the underlying methodology but also acquired practical skills that will enable them to apply the BLUPF90 program family in their future research and genetic analyses.
