Join our discussion on molecular genetics in Zoology!

With modern molecular methods, many organisms have become amenable to functional genetics: next generation sequencing can reveal genome sequences and expression profiles, RNA interference allows transcript levels to be knocked down to study gene function, new genome editing tools allow the genome to be modified with precision, and gene activity can be visualized in situ.
When used together, these techniques allow for a plethora of zoological questions to be addressed at the genetic level. The Göttingen SPIRIT summer school aims to foster the development and use of these tools in both established and non conventional animal models.

You can apply for the symposium only or for both summer school and symposium. See details below.

Göttingen Symposium “Frontiers in Molecular Zoology” (19th - 20th Sept. PIs, postdocs and PhD)

In this 2-day symposium, we want to bring together international scientists working on understanding the function of genes underlying all kinds of zoological phenomena. Some contributed talks will be selected from the submitted abstracts.

Göttingen SPIRIT Summer school “Molecular Genetics in Zoology” (16th - 19th Sept. for PhD and postdocs)

We offer a 3-day hands on training on these methods prior to the symposium. We will discuss the application of these tools to the particular projects of the participants. The aim is that you leave Göttingen with an enhanced working plan for your project. This part is restricted to 20 PhD students or postdocs.

Invited speakers:

Patrícia Beldade (IGC, Lisbon, Portugal)
Jochen Rink (MPI Biophysikalische Chemie, Göttingen, Germany)
Rosa Maria Fernandez (CRG, Barcelona, Spain)
Martin Beye (Universität Düsseldorf, Germany)
Jozef Vanden Broeck (KU Leuven, Belgium)
