Orientation Week for New Students

Dear first-year students,
we are glad that you have chosen us as your place of study. We hope that you will settle in quickly. Although we as a faculty, like the entire university, had made all the preparations for a limited range of courses in presence, the current infection situation of the COVID-19 pandemic unfortunately does not allow this. The university also has a COVID 19 3-level, colour-coded system, from which you can see to what extent, for example, face-to-face teaching is possible.

The lecture period for the summer semester starts on April 12, 2021 and ends on July 16, 2021.
Students of the Faculty organize an introductory week for new students (in German) every semester. This orientation phase takes place between April 6, 2021 and April 9, 2021. It is carried out by students of the WiWi-O-Phase association who are probably going to offer a mix of digital offers and on-site events in Göttingen.

For all of our international (exchange) students, our Incoming Office organizes a digital welcome event on 8 April 2021 from 10 am to 1 pm on the platform BigBlueButton: https://meet.gwdg.de/b/chr-wnr-p46.

On 9 April 2021 the Incoming Office also offers an "Exchange@WiWi City Tour" in teams of two (if the pandemic situation allows it) for all international students. Registration is required, the time still open. Additional information will follow in time in the Faculty's Facebook group for international students Exchange@wiwiunigoe.

Furthermore, Göttingen International (the international office of the university) offers an online introductory event for international students on 31 March 2021 (in English) and 1 April 2021 (in German). Please find more information about it here.

Virtual first semester supervision via tandem programme

In order to clarify questions that arise during the start of your studies, the student representatives of the faculty and the WiWi-O-Phase association have launched a tandem programme for first-semester students (Bachelor and Master students).

In this programme, you will be assigned a tandem partner. This partner is a student in the higher semester who is involved as member of the student representatives of the faculty or the orientation week club and would normally have accompanied you personally during your orientation week. Your tandem partner is there to answer your questions and to help you during your first study experience. The registration form has been closed. If you still would like to register for the programme, please contact the Faculty's student council (Fachschaft) (in German) directly.

Study Buddy programme for international and Göttingen students
Our Study Buddy programme wants to promote the exchange between international and German students at the University of Göttingen. When you register as a Study Buddy, you can enter your home country, study programme and personal interests so that suitable tandems between German and international students can be formed. The programme can be set up individually - whether you plan a weekly coffee meeting to catch up, meet irregularly whenever it suits you or communicate online is totally up to you. Meet our local and international students in order to create a great international network! More information

We look forward to getting to know you in Göttingen digitally and in person!
