Personal profile:

My Name is Bumi Camara, a PhD Candidate in the Faculty of Economic Sciences and the Vice Speaker of the Goettingen Graduate School of Social Sciences, (Göttinger Graduiertenschule Gesellschaftswissenschaften (GGG)). Prior to commencing my Ph.D program, I received a Master Degree from Williams College, Massachusetts, USA ; Master Degree from the University of Malawi; and Undergraduate Degree from the University of The Gambia.
I have previously worked with Central Bank of The Gambia, United Nations-UNV, and as a Director of a University based Consultancy Firm.

As Vice Speaker of GGG:
The University of Goettingen is continually being recognized as one of the best international universities in Europe, covering disciplines of greater relevance to society’s evolution through an ever expanding high quality staff and equipment for research and teaching.
Our group of PhD students working from different stations and in different disciplines share this common path with the university authorities. In our pursuit to continue delivering high quality research and teaching, a better coordination of our efforts amongst us and with the university authorities continues to be crucial for our success as a group.
As Vice Speaker of the GGG, I opt to serve the interests of our diverse membership through unique consultative processes that ensure every Ph.D student has a voice in matters relevant to their scholarship tenure in the University of Goettingen.
My principal objective is to make GGG a body that prospective graduate students of Goettingen will factor in their decision to join our university and to build a career for the future. I envision a GGG that will establish a strong network with counterpart bodies in Universities around the world that share our objectives and values. This will broaden our opportunities for networking with graduate students of other universities and help us harness the extensive career-benefits associated with peer matching.
I am aware of the fact that the tasks of graduate student representatives is embedded in what individual students think can make their study experience more successful. I intend to work with the speaker of GGG and indeed with all of you, to make the most of all possible means in expanding our programs, services and resources that will continue to bind us together as a community.
Our community of graduate students is endowed with individuals and groups with variety of skills that can be tapped and shared within the community and with the wider university neighborhood. However, the lack of or inadequate consultation and coordination has left these potentials largely untapped. As a team, it will be our priority to effectively coordinate and utilize the strengths in our diversity.
In a nutshell, I wish to be a team player that will make graduate experience a balanced combination of work and social life for our wellbeing here in Goettingen and better career prospects in the future.
