Welcome to the homepage of the Center for Medical Law

The Center for Medical Law was founded in 2005/2006 as a facility at the Faculty of Law of the Georg-August-University Göttingen. Its main task is the scientific research regarding current questions and problems that have arisen in those areas, where Medicine and Law collide. The Center emerged from the Department of Pharmaceutical and Medical Law, which existed since 1979 as a research centre at the Faculty of Law, managed by Prof. Dr. iur. Dr. h. c. mult. Erwin Deutsch (†), Prof. Dr. iur. h. c. mult. Hans-Ludwig Schreiber and Prof. Dr. med. Fritz Scheler (†).

Guidelines on confidentiality and data privacy in clinical ethics guidance

The Center for medical law project group "patients' data and medical confidentiality / Patientendaten und Schweigepflicht" published a paper on "Guidelines on confidentiality and data privacy in clinical ethics guidance / Empfehlungen zur Schweigepflicht und zum Datenschutz in der klinischen Ethikberatung" suggesting precise measures on how to preserve medical confidentiality and data privacy in clinical ethics guidance.

Lecture series "Göttinger Medizinrecht aktuell"

Since summer term 2018 the Göttingen Center for medical law hosts open penal discussions and lectures on a regular basis.
These presentations are meant to present current topics of medical law to a wide audience, besides the regular university lectures, workshops and the annually Göttingen symposia on medical law.

There are no upcoming events organized yet. We will announce new upcoming discussions and lectures as soon as possible.

The last penal discussion regardet the topic "Justice in the German Health Care System" and took place on February 18th, 2021. The discussion was co-hosted by DAF - Demokratische Aktion Fachschaft
