A Short Retrospect:

Flight and migration are probably the most controversial issues in politics, media and society at the moment. But what does research have to say to the current discussion? For example, are migration researchers (sufficiently) heard in talk shows? Or in view of fake news and populism, do they need to make themselves (more) heard in the news? Our moderator Dr. Stefan Schlegel (CeMig & University of Bern) discussed this with our guests at the 4th Night of Science (26.01.2019):
  • Prof. Dr. Hiltraud Casper-Hehne (Vice president of the University of Göttingen) advocated the creation of good conditions at the university, so that scholars can carry out the important task of academic findings.
  • Dr. Simon Goebel (Catholic University Eichstätt-Ingolstadt) noted a lack of exchange between migration studies and media and called for better cooperation between both actors.
  • Kelly Miller (Migration Matters e.V.) saw an opportunity in adapting language, format and presentation for the audience so that academic findings become more accessible.
  • (We would have liked to listen to Stephan Hebel (Frankfurter Rundschau) who could have explained how fears of contact with journalistic forms of presentation can be reduced on the part of academics. Unfortunately, he had to cancel his participation at short notice.)

MM LogoIn addition, in cooperation with Migration Matters, we have given all interested visitors of the Night of Science the opportunity to watch short videos on the subject of migration and to discuss them with us.
