Dr. rer. nat. Layla Engelhardt

Scientist

CV

Layla Engelhardt studied physical geography with specialization on biogeography and ecology at the Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main. In 2016, she wrote her Bachelor thesis at the Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Center (SBiK-F) in the Research Group Biodiversity and Ecosystem Ecology of Prof. Dr. Thomas Hickler. She evaluated biomass data of the LPJ-GUESS model in German forests with forest inventory data. Afterwards she started her master studies in Forest Science and Forest ecology at the Georg-August-University Göttingen. During her master’s degree she got a scholarship to spend a semester abroad at the Ilia State University, Tibilisi, Georgia. In her master thesis she worked on leaf traits differences of Sequoia sempervirens origins and their CO2 assimilation response during frost experiments. Since 2019, she first worked as a PhD student in the department studying interactions between phenols and plant matrices under thermal processing, and since 2023, she has been working as a postdoc on phenols in carbohydrate-rich foods.
