Peace Prize of the German Book Trade for Prof. Dr. Amartya Sen, Honorary Doctor of the Faculty of Business and Economics

This year, the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels, the professional organisation of publishers and booksellers in the Federal Republic of Germany, is awarding the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade to the Indian Nobel Prize winner Prof. Dr. Amartya Sen, who holds an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Business and Economics. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on 18 October 2020 in the Paulskirche in Frankfurt/Main.

From the statement of the jury:
"In doing so, the association and its members have chosen to pay tribute to a pioneering scholar who has addressed issues of global justice for decades and whose work to combat social inequality in education and healthcare is as relevant today as ever."

Amartya Sen is currently the Thomas W. Lamont University Professor, and professor of economics and philosophy at Harvard University. For many decades, Sen’s multifaceted and award-winning scholarly work has contributed unmatched insights and impulses to a number of fields, including welfare economics, social choice theory, decision theory, studies in hunger and poverty, and development economics.
