Molecular Medicine (B.Sc.)

The Bachelor's degree programme in Molecular Medicine is for those who want to examine medical issues using laboratory methods from molecular biology. This programme will thus primarily create skilled researchers who do not have contact with patient and not practising doctors. The programme will provide well-founded essential knowledge of the natural sciences as well as pre-clinical knowledge of biochemistry and physiology and theoretical clinical knowledge of haematology/oncology, immunology, microbiology and human genetics. In addition, several individual and group internships are scheduled.

Studienberatung & Infoangebot

The range of courses in the bachelor's programme provides a general foundation in natural sciences and medicine. The courses not only offer scientific knowledge but also practical and methodical experience. Courses span lectures, seminars and many internships. The Bachelor's Programme in Molecular Medicine aims to offer the students education that provides the basis either for occupational opportunities in the field of natural science, or an in-depth master's programme.

Consecutive/graduate programmes

The three years of the bachelor's programme are structured didactically.

During the first year of study, students acquire intensive basic knowledge in the subjects of chemistry, physics and biology that is required to understand molecular medical contexts. The range of courses is organized in cooperation with the Faculties of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

In the second year of study, the students receive a foundation in medicine. Knowledge and methods are learned in the three medical basic disciplines anatomy, physiology and biochemistry. Much practical experience in laboratories is gained, teaching students basic methods as well as methods specially pertaining to molecular medicine. Lab rotations are offered directly in the research labs of the Medical Faculty. The bachelor's degree is the first vocational qualifying degree. Graduates are familiar with the basic issues of scientific methods in the environment of medical research. They additionally are versed in a broad spectrum of molecular medical methods and can apply them competently in every research laboratory.
