The CHE University Ranking is based on data about studies, teaching, equipment and research as well as results from surveys of students and professors at the respective university. There is no final ranking list of the participating universities. Instead, the CHE classifies the universities and universities of applied sciences etc. into three groups (top, middle and bottom groups) according to indicators and criteria it has developed itself.

The results of the student survey on the study situation in general are presented for the first time this year using a 5-star scale.

According to the CHE, the ranking is the most comprehensive and detailed university comparison in the German-speaking world, with around 120,000 students surveyed: www.zeit.de/che-ranking [in German]
