Welcome to the homepage of the Center for Medical Law

The Center for Medical Law was founded in 2005/2006 as a facility at the Faculty of Law of the Georg-August-University Göttingen. Its main task is the scientific research regarding current questions and problems that have arisen in those areas, where Medicine and Law collide. The Center emerged from the Department of Pharmaceutical and Medical Law, which existed since 1979 as a research centre at the Faculty of Law, managed by Prof. Dr. iur. Dr. h. c. mult. Erwin Deutsch (†), Prof. Dr. iur. h. c. mult. Hans-Ludwig Schreiber and Prof. Dr. med. Fritz Scheler (†).


5th Göttingen Symposium on Medical Law

On 14.07.2022 the 5th Göttingen Symposium on Medical Law took place in the rooms of the historic SUB in Göttingen. The theme of the symposium was "Advance Care Planning in Psychiatry". This controversial topic was first examined from various perspectives and then enriched with questions and contributions from the audience. Especially the different professional backgrounds of the speakers, but also of the participants, rounded off the symposium to a successful event.
