Establishment of a green hydrogen economy in Southern Lower Saxony - Smart Mobility Research Group involved

How can a decentralized green hydrogen economy from production to consumption be established in the region? This is the question the South Lower Saxony Foundation is pursuing together with the Smart Mobility Research Group (SMRG) of the Chair of Information Management (Prof. Dr. Lutz M. Kolbe) and the Berlin start-up ELO-Mobility GmbH with its branch office in Hardegsen near Göttingen. At the beginning of May, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research selected the "ViridisH2 South Lower Saxony" project for a nine-month concept funding period, which will start in September.

The aim of the project is to promote climate-friendly mobility in the region in a sustainable manner - for example, through the use of hydrogen buses in local public transport. In order for this to be ecologically and economically successful, an innovative technology will be used: plasma analysis. It makes it possible to produce hydrogen by treating fermentation residue water or natural gas with plasma. Currently, the energy carrier is not produced regionally, but imported to southern Lower Saxony by tanker lorry. If the southern Lower Saxony project is successful in the concept phase against nationwide competition, the participating partners can start implementation in September 2021.
