Appointment to the Scientific Advisory Board

The Social Science Institute (SI) of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) has appointed Prof. Dr. Andreas Busch to the Scientific Advisory Board. The SI is a dependent institution of the EKD and an important competence center for protestant social ethics, studies on social and economic policy issues as well as church and religious sociological research projects. In memory of Elfriede Hermann

The Faculty of Social Sciences mourns the passing of Prof. Dr. Elfriede Hermann (1965 - 2025). Elfriede Hermann was appointed as a Professor of General Anthropology with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region at Georg-August University in 2012. Through her tireless commitment to her subject, to her students and also to the people in the Pacific region with whom she worked as part of her research, she has significantly shaped the fortunes of the institute and the faculty. Resolutely countering attacks on the freedom of research and teaching

The Faculty Council of the Faculty of Social Sciences fully supports the resolution „Angriffen auf die Freiheit von Forschung und Lehre entschlossen entgegentreten“ (Resolutely countering attacks on the freedom of research and teaching) by the Gender Studies Association. The Faculty of Social Sciences thus emphasizes that the autonomy of science and universities is of crucial importance for the democratic system. Research and teaching must not be instrumentalized for political purposes.
