Endangered Climate Savers - Forests under Drought Stress

In March 2021, NDR Info interviewed Prof. Alexander Knohl and Dr. Christian Markwitz on the effects of the 2018 drought year. In the course of climate change, periods of drought are becoming more frequent and severe. This causes drought stress on the forest, reduces CO2 storage and can result in the mortality of trees.

Start date of the joint project

The funding of DigitalForest was granted shortly before the end of 2020 by the Volkswagen Foundation and the Ministery for Science and Culture of the German federal state of Lower Saxony. We officially started the project on 1st of March, 2021. Shortly after our start, on 22 March, we had our kickoff meeting (online, owing to the actual pandemic situation).
