Development of a concept for the production of innovative facade elements made of wood fibre reinforced plastics

The idea for this research project arose from the demands placed on modern windows and the possibility to satisfy those demands through the use of two commonly available materials, namely wood and plastic. The aim of this research project was to combine the advantages of wood (environmental compatibility, CO2 balanced), and plastic (low cost, low maintenance), for facade elements into one material. These so-called Wood Plastic Composites (WPC) have not yet been optimized for use in window and facade construction.
