Development of a composite material made from polyamide and thermally stabilized wood
This project served to develop a plastic composite based on renewable raw materials (wood) for use as an engineering plastic in the automotive industry and similar markets with the aid of a thermoplastic matrix (polyamide). To this end, a process for the optimized thermostabilizing pre-treatment of wood (biochar) was first examined on a laboratory scale and then developed up to the pilot scale. This biochar was used for the development of plastic composites based on polyamide (PA) with sufficient mechanical properties and the highest possible fibre content (up to 50%). The processing methods for this plastic composite to practical products must still be adapted and developed. The processing should be done with the conventional techniques of the plastics industry (extrusion, injection molding).
